Power Corrupts
By Justin Nichols

µµµ Prologue µµµ "The boy grit his teeth as he walked into the village. A small blue light flickered around his head. He wielded a sword as bright as the midnight moon. He dressed in a forest green tunic and swaggered like a true swordsman. He wore a stocking pileus that swayed as he walked. He was the essence of a true hero...” Young Ashlynn stopped her story as she noticed she was losing attention. She grabbed her throat, made a gurgling noise, and collapsed on the ground. As expected, everybody woke up and rushed to her. She got back up asphyxiating. “Thank you, thank you... Now please let me continue.” She was getting odd looks. She looked frightened. It was reasonable, because she was telling her fairy tale to the elders of Kakariko Village, so if she slipped up, well... You understand. One of the elders then spoke up. “

Grove, perhaps you should take a hint of sky.” She immediately nodded and stepped outside.

The beautiful village of Kakariko spread out below her. She smiled and took in a little air. Walking toward the old windmill in the village, the young 15 year old began citing the old poem she had learned in the school. “In a realm beyond site, the sky shines gold, not blue. There the Triforce’s might...” She froze in her tracks. She had seen the Triforce picture on the Hylian knight’s shields, hey, they had the thing posted all over Hyrule! But what WAS the Triforce? The only thing known about it was this poem, and not even the epic Sasrahla would not tell of it. He said, “If it were to fall into the most powerful hands, it would be destroyed. All evil will of course take the triforce of power, I curse Din for leaving it... With her strong, flaming arms she created Hyrule out of it’s chaos. Only the virtuous need to take that power, but the virtuous have claims on the two... Wisdom and Courage. They build, power corrupts.”

Of course no one understood this, they just thought he was a ranting old fool on his deathbed. But Ashlynn new better. A man graced by the power of the gods could NOT become venerable and wrinkled. He died a balded white beared man, but he was strong and healthy. Nobody knows what was in the book of Mudora. He took it to his grave. “The mystery will continue...”, thought Grove as she walked along. Ah, she hated that name, it was what the elders called her. Ashlynn literally means “A Grove of Ash Trees”, she was named after the only ones in Hyrule. It should have been considered beautiful, but beauty is a matter of opinion. She was under the windmill and decided to speak to the nice man that had the music box...

Suddenly, Ashlynn heard a loud cracking. She screamed, and then all went black.
