Many years have past. Link had gone through many things. He had gotten the three spiritual stones, went ahead 7 years to become the hero of time, got 6 medallions, defeated Ganondorf, got sent back to his 10 year old self. Then three month later, he had an encounter with Stalkid. He was turned into many creatures and then defeated the Mask of Majora. He then lived his life until he became a 17 year old kid. All the sages are still sages, but live normal lives, excluding their sage duties. Now,here’s the story...

~Zora’s Domain~

"Daddy... Why has Link ignored me all these years? He did vow to become my husband, didn’t he?" Princess Ruto complained to her father.
"Well, maybe you aren’t courageous or brave enough, Ruto..." King Zora told his complaining daughter.
"Well, I’ll show him! I’m going to the Fire Temple father! Once he sees what I’ve done, he’ll be begging to marry me!" Ruto twirled around and ran off towards the Kokiri Forest, where Link lives. She left a letter at his doorstep and headed towards Death Mountain. She would show him by fighting the Fire Keese in the forgotten Fire Temple.
Though she couldn’t survive long above water, she would show him.

~Death Mountain Crater~

Ruto is running into the crater and runs into the ladder towards the temple entrance. She climbs down the ladder...

~Kokiri Forest~

Link arrives back from Lon Lon Ranch. He reaches his home and sees Ruto’s letter. He reads it.

Dear My Beloved Link,

I have gone to the Fire Temple to show off my skills. Please come and watch.

Love your fiancee,
Ruto

Link looks up in shock. He pulls out his ocarina and realizes that he gave the Ocarina of Time to Zelda, seven years ago. He runs out of Kokiri Forest and plays Epona’s Song. He hops on Epona and rides off towards the Fire Temple.

~Fire Temple~

Ruto hops off the ladder and pulls out a red potion. She starts drinking it, to gain back her health. She walks into the main room and sees a Fire Keese the size of her!

~Hyrule Field~

Link is still galloping. He arrives in front of Kakariko Village and starts running up onto Death Mountain. He runs up the mountain.

~Fire Temple~

The Fire Keese sees Ruto and dives at her!

~Death Mountain Crater~

Link runs to the entrance of the Fire Temple and jumps down the hole with the ladder. He arrives in the temple and sees Ruto, lying on the ground. She was terribly burnt and an enormous Fire Keese flapped around. He pulled out his bow and fires an Ice Arrow at it. It shrivels up and dies. He runs over to Ruto and sees her limp body. She is scarcely breathing.
"Ruto, please wake up!" Link cries out. Ruto turns her head toward Link. She says a few last words.
"Link? I love you... And don’t tell my father..." Ruto says very silently. She dies in Link’s arms. "Ruto... Ruto! No! Ruto..." Link begins to cry. He just lost a great friend, and a sage. After minutes of tears, he gets up. Suddenly, Zelda appears in back of Link. "Link... I came as fast as I could. A Zora messenger came to the castle and told me to come," Zelda explains. She sees Link’s tears and Ruto’s dead body. Zelda gasps.
"We had better go to the chamber of sages, Link..." She touches Link with Ruto in his arms and then warp off to the chamber of sages.

~Chamber of Sages~

They warp into the chamber and greet Rauru.
"You must summon the other sages, Rauru! We must tell the others of this tragedy!" Rauru summons the sages and the appear on their pedestals.
"My fellow sages... Ruto has died...In the Fire Temple..."
"What! Ruto? What are we to do with 6 sages?" Saria, Sage of the Forest asks.
Darunia, the Sage of Fire looks away and doesn’t say a word.
"Ruto? Why her? And how?" Impa, the Sage of Shadow asks.
"Can we really survive without her? Our powers may weaken!" Nabooru yells out.
"I don’t know what we’ll do with only the 6 of us sages... I don’t know why Ruto died, but she died because of an enormous Keese burn. We shall wait to see if more goes wrong... Her funeral will be held in 2 days. Saria tell the Kokiri about her death and the funeral date, Darunia shall tell the Gorons, Impa shall tell the members of her village, Naboru will tell her Gerudos, and Zelda shall tell the Hylains. Now, go!"
The sages warp off to tell their assigned people.

~Two days later~

Everyone from the Gerudos to the Gorons attended Ruto’s funeral. Rauru took the pedestal and said all the funeral words. There was a lot of crying during the funeral. All the Sages and Link said some last words about Ruto and then the funeral ended. Everyone except the sages and Link left. They stayed. Rauru left first, Nabooru left next, then Zelda and Impa together. Saria and Link also left together. Darunia stayed at Ruto’s casket.
"Why is he staying?" Link asked.
"Because she died in his temple..." Saria answered.
"I’ll be at be spot if you need me..."
