The Dark
Side
Chapter 1: Aww, Cr*p!
"Hey! Listen!" shouted Navi. Link opened his eyes and
yawned. "What?" he grumbled, still half asleep.
"Hurry, Link! Today's the day! You slept in! Get to the
castle!" "You're right! Let's go!" Link hurried
out of bed. He had bought a house in Kakariko Village, and the
little town was so sleepy and peaceful, it was not too hard to
sleep in, day after day after day. That day was going to be the
most important day of Link's life, second only to the Day of
Destiny, three years earlier, when Link (the Hero of Time), The
six Sages, and Zelda (who at that time had cross-dressed as
Sheik), sealed the King of Evil, Ganon(dorf) in the void of the
gap between dimensions. That day, Link had felt enough terror,
hatred, and relief to last him a lifetime. But today was the day
that he would propose to Princess Zelda and be crowned Prince of
Hyrule until the King retired. So Link put on his finest tunic
and the big green hat he always wore, gelled his hair, and ran.
Once outside the village, he sped across the bridge, and to the
Castle Town, which had recently been rebuilt and cleansed of
ReDeads. Everyone he knew waved at him, and shouted greetings. He
was the closest thing Hyrule had to a celebrity. Royal guards
made sure that no one with less than good intentions got close to
Link. "Hiyee!" shouted the odd guy from the Happy Mask
Shop. "Hi, Link!" Cried the townspeople.
"Hey!" He called back. From there, he headed up the
road to the castle itself. Instead of sneaking in the way he had
countless times as a child, Link walked straight to the main
gate. The guards bowed down low, and opened the doors and gates
for him. Link went straight to the castle courtyard. Zelda's
mystic lullaby played as sweetly as Link could remember. Humming
happily to himself, Link took a deep breath and looked around.
This was home, from now on. Now to find Zelda. He didn't need to
look very far. She was about three metres away, tending her
lilacs. She was fuming. "What could be keeping him? I said
three o'clock! I know I did!" She checked the sundial.
"And look, It's four thirty!!" Link plucked the most
perfect rose that he could find from a nearby bush, and walked up
to Zelda. "Dear Princess, please accept this small token as
an apology for my tardiness!" He handed the rose to her. She
rolled her eyes. "You can take that rose and shove it up
your a*s!" Link looked stunned. "Well, sorry for
existing!" he whined in an injured tone. Zelda laughed.
"Oh, Link
it's okay. I was just worried about you,
that's all. You were supposed to help me pick out a dress for the
festivities tonight, remember?" Link slapped his forehead.
"Oh, cr*p! I totally forgot!" "I know. It's okay,
though. I picked one out myself. Come see it." With that,
she led Link out of the courtyard and through the main foyer.
Link was stopped by a plaintive sniffle.
