Grati
By Pengwin21a

The man stood, watching over Hyrule on the tall mount. He knew not his purpose yet, but he was to meet with a soldier inside the castle. Yes, Garti was a mercenary, an assasin, a man who would do any job to benefit himself. Later the same day, Garti found himself outside the gates of Hyrule. He walked in past a guard who seemed half-awake. As he passed the guard pressed a key into his hand. Garti slithered through the happy market, almost falling over a little lady who was chasing a Cucco."Oh come back!" she exclaimed. The bird kept on running. The man laughed, and remembered his humble days. Yes, he had lived in a small enclave with his family and another small band of peons, always in fear of being attacked by a stray Lizalfos. He then remembered his father... A great man, always loving Garti, but not overly strong inside. On the night of Garti's 18th birthday, when Garti was to come a man, his mother and father's best friend was horribly killed. Garti's father went into turmoil inside himself, but Garti was young for his age, and had no experience in the world, so he could not tell. One night Garti woke up to find his father drinking a drink. Garti cried out to his father, but his paternal had already taken a swig of what Garti later found to be a deadly mix of chemicals from a chest Garti never knew his father had.But that been three years ago... three years ago today...Garti continued on into the road leading to the castle gates. He saw a boy climbing vines to reach the top. "Silly boy," Garti thought. He knew he would have no trouble getting in.He approached the guard at the gate, "Hey buddy, let me by." The guard wouldn't. He stepped in front of the gate lever defensively."I didn't want to do it this way, but..." Garti led with his left hand but knocked the guard out with the right. He stepped over to the lever and let himself in, sliding past each of the guards dotted across the field. He made it to a cliff, and at the top of the grooved wall he saw the foot of a child leave its foothold and go over the top.He ran across a walk, and slipped in the castle moat. "Arrgh," he complained, as the water was cold up on the castle's perch. He waded around the bend and climbed up some steps. He kicked at a door that would lead into the castle it. It didn't budge a bit. The mercenary peered around, until he spotted a vent. He shook his head. The vent was small, but his only way in. Garti leaped across the moat, and grabbed onto the vent opening. He pulled himself up, and squirmed his body into the hole. He squirmed and squirmed, until he had the top of his shoulders just out of the vent. He was in a magnificent room, filled with portraits and paneled in pristine, white granite. But then Garti realized that he couldn't move. And on top of that, well, er, he had to go the bathroom. After about ten minutes, Garti couldn't take it anymore. Nature was calling, and he wasn't having a great amount of fun in the vent. Pushed by this new motivation, Garti started to thrust himself forward, quite comically if you were there. So, eventually Garti made it out, and moved on into a new room. He again slithered past another bored guard, and continued on in this manner for quite some while until arrived at the throne room. The throne room was richer, bigger, and prettier than any room he had ever seen before. But just as he walked in, a little boy ran out. Garti pressed himself against the wall, and was not seen. He carefully walked into the room. All seemed safe, so he started to fool around with his dagger. He was actually having fun, balancing the tip of the dagger on his finger, while holding it over his head, when a voice called out."Ahh... so this is the man Garti." Garti dropped his dagger, narrowly missing his head.He turned around to see a tall lady. He remembered his father telling him legends of Sheikahs, but he did not think that they had still existed. Garti stood dead still. The Sheikah went on. "There is a certain boy who may need some... well, let's just say some looking after... I would like to employ your services, perhaps? You would be rewarded with as many rupies as you would like. And you may witness something very powerful... very, very powerful.""Who would I have to watch? The pricess? A prince to be? The king?""You would watch a little boy... I believe you saw him enter and exit.""You want me, the legendary Garti to babysit? That's like asking me to punch a molblin with out my dagger or any protection.""Ahh... but it would be worth your while... as you should know, the king does possess some wealth.""Fine then... but why?" "Oh you will find out in time... always in time."
