Epilogue

It wasn't until Saria's coronation party that all the elite of Hyrule gathered together. This included Saria II, Malon, Talon, Link, Saria I, Darunia, Ruto, Nabooru, Impa, Rauru, Zelda, Chezdon, Barive, Veil, Kiana*, Janneh and Ophila, among others. The party was officially held at Hyrule Castle, but smaller, unofficial parties were held elsewhere.
At the royal ceremony, the atmosphere was surprising relaxed. Saria talked with everyone (she was getting used to official social gatherings), as did her parents. Still, it seemed they were never away from her side. It was as though they feared she would run away.
At one point Saria laughed and told Malon, "Mom, do you honestly think I'm going to try to get away? And besides that, it's not like they'd dare try to kidnap me again. Who'd be that dumb?"
Malon only said with a smile, "When you have kids of your own, you'll understand. I only pray you don't have to go through what your father and I went through."
Link added, "I hope you have no more 'excitement' in your life, cause I don't think my heart can take it. Everytime something happens to you, it cuts ten years off my life from utter shock. By now, I'm gonna die when I turn fifty."
There was, of course, one person who didn't participate in the celebration very enthusiastically... Rilla. It was not surprising to note that she spent much of her time looking on while ordering her new attendant, Calena, here and there. While Zelda and Chezdon did stop by her side on occasion to ask her to be civil, she otherwise kept to herself. That is, until Saria approached her.
"Hi, cousin." she said, "Haven't seen you enjoying yourself. What's up?"
Rilla said nothing and downed another galss of punch. She handed the glass back to Calena, who promptly refilled it. Taking it back, Rilla said, "You know, you've ruined my life. Since I was born I've been second fiddle to you, even when you were my servant! Did you know people cared more about the poor lost Princess Saria then they cared about the birth of their real princess? My birthday wasn't even front page news... You were! You've always been stealing my spotlight, stealing my thunder." she glanced at her cousin's dress and added, "Even stealing my clothes."
Saria was bothered by Rilla's attitude, especially when she demanded more punch. The princess was a depressed alcoholic in the making, and that could be good for no one. Saria smiled a little and said, "I'm sorry. I never tried to."
Meanwhile, the princesses' fathers watched this encounted from a distance, with worried expressions. Chezdon commented, "I have sympathy for Hyrule under Rilla's reign. I really think Saria would be a much better queen."
Link nodded, then said, "Before Rilla was born, I thought the two of them would be best friends. I guess I couldn't have been more wrong."
Just then, Malon and Zelda approached. Malon overheard and said, "I remember that comment. Do you remember how Saria knew it was going to be a girl?"
Zelda scoffed and said, "Now, you've told me about that, and I've told you she had a fifty-fifty chance of getting it right, and it's nothing special that she did."
"But she seemed so sure!" Malon insisted.
Zelda shook her head and told her, "Little girls always want babies to be girls. Little boys want babies to be boys."
The parents stood and watched as Saria and Rilla continued to talk. They all knew this was far from the end of that rivalry.
