Light's Shadow
by Brent Cook

The Messenger’s heart beat wildly as he ran through the castle’s main gate. Running up the cobble-stone path, he came to Hyrule Castle’s enormous drawbridge. When he saw it was closed he began kick-ing and screaming for the guards to lower the gate! After seeing that the boy was a royal dispatch the guards opened the gate.

The boy ran into the safety of the castle walls as fast as he could, taking only a moment to catch his breath, turn and yell to the guards "SHUT THE GATE!'!! THEY ARE COMING!!!!" With both fear and curiosity the guards began close the drawbridge as the boy asked. Once the boy saw that the guards were doing what he said the boy shot off again.

The boy was speeding through the castle’s corridors and passages hoping not to hit anyone in the Royal Family. Unless it was the King, for the boy had a message of the utmost importance for him. The boy searched all the castle’s rooms as fast as he could in search for the King of Hyrule but to no avail. He finally found a door in the tall tower of the castle that had six individuals in black robes and the king along with his new son-in-law, Link, was standing there right beside them.

Once the boy came up to the king he handed him a message from the northern dispatch sent to moni-tor the sightings of stalfos warriors near the gerudo fortress. It read as follows:

" Northern Dispatch: Code 11 "

" We are outnumbered! Send re-enforcement’s to drive them back! Investigation revealed that it is not, I repeat, NOT Ganondorf behind the sightings and that what we are fighting is a far greater evil pres-ence! It can only b...

The rest of the message was only the mark of a pen slowly drifting down the paper and small dried droplets of blood. The King of Hyrule then turned slowly to Link and nodded his head. The King then collapsed on the floor, unconscious!

Then all at once the six individuals lifted the hoods off their heads and revealed to the frightened boy The Six Sages! The boy was also mistaken that not all of them were men as he originally thought. They rushed to the fallen king's side and quickly picked him up and carried him away.

Link stayed in the chamber and looked out the window at the glare of a red sun. As he looked out the window he whispered a saying that was frequently used in Hyrule. "Threats will come and go but evil lives forever." He said. No one would have understood what that meant at the time but they were soon to learn of an evil that could not be stopped.

An evil born from the sun!
